Description

Loft Legs or loft stilts are loft flooring legs that raise your loft floor boards allowing extra height for your insulation to sit underneath without compressing it. Loft legs therefore maximise your heat saving performance as compressing insulation greatly reduces how effective it is. This means you will have 100mm of glass mineral wool between your joists. Then you will have 200mm of glass mineral wall 90 degrees to this, between your loft legs. Like the image below, however this particular loft used space blanket insulation. This is basically glass fibre wool wrapped in aluminum foil: The more insulated your house is, the colder your loft will be. This is because the insulation is slowing down the heat trying to escape your house. A colder loft does also means warm moist air can condensate within the loft. And finally, asbestos-containing materials could be present in your loft if your home was built before the year 2000. If you suspect there is then don’t take the risk, talk to us about how to safely remove those materials. This product is responsibly sourced, with social and environmental considerations integrated into its supply chain Screw the Tri supports down onto the rafter. For this we have used No.8 1 1/2 inch (38mm) wood screws ensuring that the support remains central to the beam while it’s screwed in place Sound familiar? Well you can fit a loft boarding system that allows you to have the recommended 270 mm loft insulation, plus an air gap to allow air flow, which prevents condensation building up in your roof space (helping to prevent rot in your roof timbers). Fitting Storefloor by LoftZone raises the loft boards over the increased loft insulation, provides an air gap, and a secure storage floor for your suitcases, Christmas decorations and old photo albums. This system allows you to board out your loft yourself, and you can fit it in sections so you don’t have to clear out your whole loft before you begin. Where there is a heavy installation in the loft, like a water tank, that section of floor is always reinforced to allow for the extra weight. Often the rafters in that section are also given additional support using hanging timbers attached to the pitched section of the roof trusses. Loft legs are an innovative and safe solution to avoid insulation compression when using your loft as storage.Manufactured in the UK from recycled polypropylene. Many screws are required when it comes to loft boarding. You will need 8 screws per loft leg. 4 screws to fix the loft leg to the joist. And another 4 to fix the loft board to the loft leg. Pozi drive drill bits enable you to use a cordless drill as a powerful screwdriver. An excellent cordless drill popular with building contractors. This powerful Milwaukee drill comes with charger and case.

Below is an image of a loft entrance. Floor level is lower at the loft entrance compared to the storage area. This ensures easy loft access. PIR foam board (kingspan) insulation has been installed around the loft entrance. This customer wanted the very best insulation above his cold bathroom. Other areas of this loft use space blanket. The kingspan insulation also allow the customers to freely walk around his loft where no flooring is present. We talk you through how to fit loft boards in your roof space using this system and it is designed to be easy to DIY, but you can also have it installed by LoftZone if you prefer. How Much Loft Insulation Do I Need?

Make sure the orientation of the loft board is correct. Tongue and groove boards are designed to slot together. See how we calculated these figures here: More on how loft storage compares to self-storage 6. You could even make money by renting out your loft space! Older properties with a joist and rafter roof construction will usually allow more flexibility. These are favoured by The Loft Boys because they are usually large open spaces. And with few obstructions other than tanks and diagonal roof braces. You will usually find that these properties will allow for larger floorboards to be used (8’ x 2′). And this reduces the amount of cutting needed greatly. The only issue you may find using the larger loft boards is getting them into the loft itself. It may be best to call that favour in from your neighbour now! Trussed roofs Diagram of a truss roof It maintains airflow between the underside of the flooring and the insulation (stopping the build-up of condensation and all associated problems). Do you have water or gas pipes in your loft? If so then ensure you board around them to ensure easy access. If a water pipe bursts the last thing you want is to be ripping up your loft boards. This also applies to important electrical connection, such as light fittings and junction boxes. Down Lights (Recessed Lights)

If you do not wear a coat or a paper suit, you are guaranteed to feel very itchy after. These disposable suits are also handy for other types of jobs such as decorating. We even take this concept further by installing shelving solutions for some customers. This involves building simple but highly useful shelves so that you can store items above the loft floor level. We use the structure of the roofing timbers to do this safely and you can imagine how much extra storage space this adds! 3. It helps to prevent heat, and money, loss!
