And when We took a firm promise from you, and We raised the Mount of Sinai high above you, (saying): ‘Hold fast to this (Book) which We have given you and listen (to Our commandment).’ Then (your chiefs) said: ‘We have heard but disobeyed.’ And owing to their revolt against faith, their hearts were imbued with the love of the calf. (O Beloved) say (to them): ‘These utterances are (most) vile which your (so-called) faith commands you if you believe (in them truly).’ 93. Waith akhathna meethaqakum warafaAAna fawqakumu alttoora khuthoo ma ataynakum biquwwatin waismaAAoo qaloo samiAAna waAAasayna waoshriboo fee quloobihimu alAAijla bikufrihim qul bisama yamurukum bihi eemanukum in kuntum mumineena 93. They seek to deceive Allah (i.e., the Messenger) and the believers, but (in fact) they deceive only themselves and they are not aware of it.* * Here a mudaf mahdhuf (an omitted and inherent co-related noun) is referred to which is Rasul. The words yukhadi‘un Allah ‘they seek to deceive Allah’ denote yukhadi‘un Rasul-Allah ‘they seek to deceive the Messenger of Allah’. Inna Allaha la yastahyee an yadriba mathalan ma baAAoodatan fama fawqaha faamma allatheena amanoo fayaAAlamoona annahu alhaqqu min rabbihim waamma allatheena kafaroo fayaqooloona matha arada Allahu bihatha mathalan yudillu bihi katheeran wayahdee bihi katheeran wama yudillu bihi illa alfasiqeena 26. Sannelig, Allah er ikke forlegen ved å legge ut et eksempel (for å forklare), om det skulle være av en mygg eller noe mer (motbydelig) enn det. De troende vet godt at det eksemplet er (en påvisning av) sannheten fra Herren deres. Men de som har tatt til seg vantroen, spør (når de hører det): «Hva kan vel Allah mene med dette eksemplet?»
