Zijn woorden kwamen net als het paard van Troje onschuldig over mijn grenzen, en toen bam, bedrogen, alle troepen sprongen eruit, raakten me hard, achter elkaar door, regen me steeds weer en weer en weer aan hun speer. After spending all her life at Valentia Island, she now works as a parking warden in Dublin, with a secret agenda in mind and a rigid schedule on hand. Apparently, her mother didn't want her at all and other than when Allegra was at boarding school, it's been her and pops forever. If you like this author then I suggest you give it a go and make up your mind because more than likely you too will enjoy it as many others have.

Freckles is Allegra Bird’s journey as she filters through the turmoil in her mind and tries to make sense of the world she now inhabits. Allegra, plagued by his nasty comments, becomes obsessed with finding her five people that she spends most time with, only to come to the realisation that she only has her dad. There's rarely a day that goes by without me having a novel (or a few) in progress and I save yours as my special reads - they are like a treat in the world of books ❣️ thank you, lots of love, Delia. My characters push through and as a result evolve, become stronger and better equipped for the next challenge that life brings. All Allegra has ever wanted was to join the Garda, but when that falls through, she moves to Dublin to work as a traffic warden and look for her mother.

I would forgive this and accept this as a nice easy read but I really do not like how the author has portrayed nearly every woman in this book. I’m ve read almost all of the author’s books and always looking forward to what she comes up with next. This is a life-affirming read that is cleverly constructed, has just enough humour to keep it light and delivers a moving ending. Das Buch scheint keinen Plot oder ersichtlichen roten Faden zu haben, und die Protagonistin ist (im Vergleich zu Eleanor Oliphant) dann doch nicht interessant oder ulkig genug, um die Geschichte zu tragen. So when a stranger tells her that everyone is the average of the five people they spend the most time with, it opens up something deep inside.I felt myself wanting to befriend her, to guide her to the right people, rather than watch her make some questionable choices. Allegra only talks to the village baker where she gets her coffee and pastry every morning, a colleague and a gallery owner who hires Allegra to pose nude for art classes. The novel’s Irish setting, vividly portrayed in locations like Valentia Island and Malahide, adds a realistic and charming backdrop to the narrative. In the end I enjoyed this book, some moments made me laugh out loud and the ending is satisfying and “feel good”.

Pops was a wonderful character, odd in his own way exactly like Allegra but totally accepting of the type of person she was. Ze is zeker niet perfect en je wilt haar wel eens aanmoedigen om andere keuzes te maken, maar met vallen en opstaan groeit ze en wordt ze sterker. This instantly makes her examine her five people and what their characters say about who she is, but she also realises that she can choose to become whoever she wants to be by choosing a very specific set of five people.Definitely a self-provoking read, only think I’d like to point out is that I might have preferred a direct dialogue between characters. This was slow, hard going and the only positive thing I can say is, the characters were well developed.
