Description

I should probably ask you what your use for the mouse is, but if that mx518 has been serving you well all this time, there's probably no reason to abandon Logitech. This function is done all by the mouse itself, no drivers are required to increase or decrease the sensitivity on the fly.

From a gaming point of view, the 1600dpi sensor found in the MX518 will be a real draw for anyone wanting to improve their frag count. However, the Logitech has a better sensor and a wider CPI range that can adjust more precisely, and since it's a larger mouse, it should be more comfortable than the Razer for larger-sized hands. The square contact on the PCB plate is the ground, which should correspond with the red-stripe side of the MX518 wire. It also has more programmable buttons, including two on the front and back of the scroll wheel, and you can assign a G-Shift button for a second layer of programming. That is testament to the incredible build quality on this mouse, that its still working years after it was made.

The Logitech has a wider CPI range, a set CPI that you can adjust more precisely, and a more consistent sensor. Located just above and below the scroll wheel are plus and minus buttons – these will switch up and down between your customised sensitivity settings. The MX518 features 8 buttons, 6 of which can be assigned to different functions using the Logitech SetPoint software that comes with the mouse that I’ll talk about later. On gaming 9 times out of 10 when I play (BF3 mainly), I end up with a positive K/D ratio, and without this mouse I dont think that would be the case. It’s our most accurate gaming sensor ever, with a capture rate of up to 17,000 frames per second, achieving 400+ IPS across the entire 100 - 25,600 DPI range with zero smoothing, filtering or acceleration.

The reason for this is that I have pretty small hands, and I’ve always found gaming mice to be a bit to bulky for swift movement in the thick of battle. Now I didn’t realise just how clumsy the movement on my basic mouse was until I started using the MX518. There are also three small buttons near the scroll wheel: one button to switch the active window and two buttons to change the dpi on the fly. With the MX518 being small enough for my quick movement method when playing games, it’s made it over the first hurdle with flying colours, but there’s so much more to this mouse than its size.

I have not tried the fk1 so cannot comment on it, however the original fk is a bit on the small side so if you have larger hands the fk1 would be a good choice. Or you could go with the Nixeus Revel Fit (the mouse on the left), which also has a flawless sensor (the 3360).
