This wouldn’t necessarily be a problem if the Miofive 4K UHD dash cam had removable storage, but, like the Road Angel Halo Ultra, it’s stuck with just 64GB of onboard space. The second, and longer, cable for the rear camera – which attaches to the main camera – is awkwardly thicker and takes a little longer to install. This may have been fixed by a firmware update, or subsequent connection with the phone app, as the Miofive now displays the correct time. For example, if you’re stopped at a traffic light and the car in front of you moves, a voice will tell you to move forward after five seconds. It’ll also record all the times you have been on the phone and everything you will be talking about. After fifteen minutes of an uneventful install, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it turned out to be. This screen is mainly for setting up the camera because once it’s up and running after about a minute, it turns itself off with a reassuring American voice telling you “Miofive continues to serve”.

Overall, we think the Miofive has quite a sleek design compared to some of the more utilitarian dash cams out there, with a soft-touch plastic body, glossy front and back, and premium build quality. Each one-minute 4K video clip is around 220MB, and so the 128GB of internal memory will fill up after about 8 hours of record time when doing 4K loop recording. For the most part, you’ll likely keep the Miofive Dual Dash Cam in its Loop Video mode, which is continually recording one-minute clips. I'm trying to get a head start on my review by getting some initial specification gathering completed along with running my standard power consumption tests. Without the fuse installation hardware, I can only take advantage of the Parking Monitor mode for monitoring while the ignition is off.The rear cam also mounts with stick pads, but you’ll have to route the long cable from the front camera to the back. The non-touchscreen provides access to additional control options, such as the album/back, setting/next and emergency video/confirm capacitive buttons.

With the it installed – a job for a professional, really – the camera has a continual power source, even when the car isn’t on. Truth be told, I've found these a bit annoying and turned the sensitivity down on my wife's car, and even ended up turning them off eventually. With the video zoom level at 200% and with a grid line placed just at the base of the defroster vent holes, I could see the bottom edge of the vent holes move from just above the pale green/blue line to just below the line when hitting a small/moderate ripple in the road.Trying to coordinate the front/rear video file creations/rotations ended up destabilizing the system. While I would consider the output video quality to be “good enough” for the typical use case, the crystal clarity that many of these dash cams advertise is a bit of a misnomer in the context of capturing the details of a moving object.

Of course, the reason for this width is to allow Miofive to pack in plenty of tech, plus the lens construction and a small preview screen on the back of the unit. I can't report about the camera’s performance in a collision because, thankfully, I didn’t experience any such events. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.Miofive’s driver assist features include a “the traffic in front of you is moving” alert and a fatigue alarm that will bug you at set intervals. Miofive’s 4K UHD dash cam is a compact high-resolution dash cam, offering video coverage from the front of any vehicle. For driver assistance, the Miofive is also equipped with AI Algorithms such as Go Assist to monitor traffic conditions, and receive alerts of sudden braking and turns - which the Thinkware U1000 also covers with its ADAS and Safety Camera Alert functions. Other than this, which is an issue which can be said for most dashcams, it’s a competent dashcam which will keep you protected on the road.
