The reverse side of the fan reveals a few more details such as the part number (A12025-20RB-4BP-F1) as well as it’s voltage and current ratings. During the benchmarking process, I found the MF120 HALO² fan to be pretty quiet even when the Ryzen 5 5600 was under heavy load. As I mentioned before, there are no differences between the RGB version of the Hyper 212 Black edition and the standard.

I will be running all of these tests with the side panels closed so we get a more realistic use case scenario when you have the PC right beside you. There is also a PWM fan splitter cable for adding another fan, as well as the Molex power adapter for the optional handheld RGB controller. The Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition offers better installation and great performance, easily one of the best air cooling solutions. The RGB-enabled PWM fan can be controlled by RGB software from a supported motherboard, or from an included controller. It also comes with a 4-pin PWM connector and a 3-pin addressable RGB connector, instead of the usual 4-pin 12V RGB connector that CPU cooler fans tend to come with.

A legend gets even better: improved mounting system, more sophisticated design, and above all lower temps and much lower noise – all with the same value proposition that made the EVO such a go-to cooler.

Motherboard removal shenanigans aside, the rest of the installation process was a cinch - the thermal paste used for this install was Cooler Master's MasterGel Pro that came included with the Hyper 212 Halo Black. Moving on to an actual gameplay test with Fortnite, while on a combination of medium graphics settings on the 1440p resolution, the Ryzen 5 5600 achieved an average CPU CCD1 temperature readout of 48. The Silencio FP120 features exclusive Silent Driver IC technology which reduces noise and power output. First launched back in 2007 as an air cooler targeted at AMD's Athlon 64 CPUs on platforms such as Socket 939 and AM2, as well as Intel's Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad offerings built on the LGA775 socket, the DIY PC industry has since witnessed countless iterations of the Hyper 212, as Cooler Master refreshed the line-up for successive generations of CPUs that have come and gone over the past few years.

On the top of the cooling tower, we see that Cooler Master’s included an aluminium top plate with some screen printed motifs featuring a minimalist rendition of the Cooler Master logo – the top plate obscures the ends of the heat pipes that the cooler comes with, and sure goes a long way in making the Hyper 212 Halo Black look premium.

It's a case of a very old, not so good product being so popular that it still sells like hot pancakes because of word of mouth marketing. Bottom line, Cooler Master's Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition is an outstanding option worthy of the Hyper 212 name. While power consumption is doubled in the RGB fan, it’s likely due to the power required to run the LEDs, rather than the fan itself drawing that much power. The RGB Black Edition features all of the features listed above such as quad direct-contact heat pipes, nickel coating, and a premium aluminum finish on the top panel. These particular coolers are targeted towards those types of gamers or system builders who prefer those dark subtle looks.

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition, afaik, is one of the best bang for the buck cooler out there. With a demonstrated drive to continuously improve, it's no wonder they are one of the world's leading DIY PC components manufacturers. This is important as the fan blocks access to the screws used to tighten down the heatsink to the back plate assembly. Moving over to the bottom of the cooling tower assembly, we see that the Hyper 212 Halo Black features four direct-contact heat pipes that are painted black so as to match the rest of the cooling tower’s appearance. The contents of the box are securely packaged thanks to the use of cardboard dividers and foam inserts. The primary heat exchanger features 4 embedded copper heat pipes (Ø6mm) in flat array, and includes additional aluminium fins with lateral grooves upon the plate to further augment thermal conductivity. I mean, even with the fan speed set to its Max setting, I was barely able to hear the system, which was awesome. Two different versions of the Hyper 212 Black Edition have been released, one with a stealthy Silencio Fan, and another with an RGB enabled fan (SF120R RGB). No surprise that the RGB edition produced slightly better results than the non-RGB version as it does come equipped with a slightly more powerful fan.
